Featured alumni – Ron Felushko (GCM 70)
Ron writes – I have lived in Australia for the last 28 years….but it is still great to keep in touch with the institution that changed my life – for the better! I proudly wear my Ryerson ring from 1967 and get many comments about it here in Australia. I migrated to Brisbane in 1978 and have never regretted it, although I do miss a good raging snowstorm every now and then. The graphic arts industry has changed dramatically – I moved here as a film stripper and now I am happily employed at Brisbane’s largest label printing company. I owe everything to Ryerson. My professor, Cliff Hawes was a wonderful teacher who taught me about the trade and about life. This picture is of the creek in my back yard in suburban Brisbane. I tow a blow up alligator behind me because the people along the creek think that it is cute. Cheers N’ Beers….Ron

Graduating Class 2006
This year GCM is proud to provide 91 graduates for the printing industry. Every graduate has been interviewed and is going through that agonizing waiting and negotiation period as they enter the job market. Graduate Joan Antonio is an example of a graduate who has completed all the nail-biting formalities and accepted a position with Rogers Media. We expect 100% placement of our graduates within the next few months. Congratulations to Joan and all the other graduates of 2006 – we are pleased to see them soar from the nest after four years at the School. Go GCM Go…….

New Dean Daniel Doz
Dr Daniel Doz has been appointed Dean of the Ryerson University Faculty of Communication & Design of which GCM is a part. Dr Doz is originally from Montreal but joins Ryerson from the US where he was head of Architecture and Art at Norwich University, Vermont. Daniel holds a PhD in theatrical studies from the Universite de Paris, and claims to be an accomplished (but undiscovered) photographer. The Dean is a great supporter of the school and attends the CPIA annual conference. We welcome him to Ryerson.
TAGA Technical Conference, Vancouver
The Annual Conference of the Technical Association of the Graphic Arts (TAGA) was held in Vancouver, 19-21, March, 2006. This is the primary conference for advanced research in the graphic arts. There were 163 attendees at this years meeting. GCM faculty presented five papers representing on-going research in the areas of digital printing and print processes.
Ryerson profs are pictured here shaking hands with Richard Goodman, KPG, President of TAGA.

Heidelberg Press Run

On April 5, GCM conducted a press run at Heidelberg Canada, Toronto. The press used was the Speedmaster XL 105 machine capable of 18,000 sheets an hour. The run was used to generate characterization (fingerprint) data using the new IT8.7/4 printer target as part of a larger project for the IPA Color Proofing RoundUP, June 6-8, Chicago, IL. We thank Brian Ellis for his support and press time.
